PA Donates Foam/Crash Truck

The Port Authority donated a 1996 Walters Rapid Intervention Response Vehicle to the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department.

The truck is a model BL15. It has the capacity to hold 1500 gallons of water, plus 180 gallons of liquid foam, and another 450 pounds of dry chemical.

The Port Authority Police assumed ARFF (aircraft rescue and firefighting) responsibilities for Teterboro Airport on December 1, 2005.

The PA police are fully trained firefighters at all other PA Airports (JFK, LGA, and Newark).

The PA police get regular training and certifications. All other PA facilities employ Oshkosh fire trucks, and Teterboro is equipping itself with the same equipment for operator familiarity and training reasons.

Two new trucks for Teterboro were delivered to Newark in mid-December and are being tested before being permanently assigned to Teterboro.

Spare trucks from JFK and Newark were assigned to Teterboro on November 30th and will remain in service here until the new trucks are delivered.

One of the new trucks will be equipped with a "snozzle" (equipment which can pierce the skin of a fuselage and fill a jet cabin with fire suppression foam).

Rather than auction the retired 1996 Walters, the Port Authority decided to donate the truck to Hasbrouck Heights.

Hasbrouck Heights is the primary fire-responder to Teterboro Airport, and the donation is in recognition of that.

The truck has been fully inspected, and all operating and mechanical problems are being remedied and repaired so that the truck will be ready for paint when it gets to HHFD.

The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department will soon receive orientation training.

This unit will be located in the firehouse at 248 Hamilton Avenue, taking the position vacated by Old Engine 1 which was donated to the Pascagoula, MS Fire Department in September 2005.
