Sign for the Times
The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights installed a public notice sign at the Municipal Complex
at the corner of The Boulevard and Central Avenue. The sign cost about $12,000, plus
$3,000 for electrical and computer hook-up. It was funded from the capital ordinance for
the construction of the municipal building.
Messages announce Borough events, public meetings, etc. The sign is tied into the
Municipal Complex generator and can post emergency notices even if power is out in town
(i.e., Senior Center is an emergency shelter). Currently, actual messages are used, but
they are experimenting with the messages frequency, visibility, timing, etc. Michael
Kronyak, Rose Marie Sees and Robert Brady are authorized to post messages on the sign from
their office computers.
Three sign companies gave six proposals for the project, with bids ranging from $19,515 to
$11,965. The sign is 2 9 high by 7 wide and 8 deep, plus a 12
header. The sign holds up to five lines of text. Special effects and graphics were
included. All of the sign contractors suggested this location and angle for maximum
visibility to the buildings main entrance, parking lots, Central Avenue and The
Boulevard (rather than by the flag pole area at Madison Avenue and The Boulevard). ###
